FiveHaystacks is a 60 acre parcel of land in Campbellville, Ontario, composed of rolling hills, natural wetlands, and wooded areas It is also a working farm, with a number of agripreneurs coming together to work the land and put a new spin on what farming and sustainable land use are all about. In one corner of the farm there is a meditation garden, at the other end a bee yard, and down the hill and in between there are hay fields, natural habitat for snapping turtles, frogs, birds, bats and a host of other animals. And there are lots of places to sit and think, watch the pollinators dip into the flowers and the snapping turtles race for the pond. We believe that work and play can go together, that nature can be used without being abused or used up; that farms can be beautiful, that they can have room for art and whimsy and spending time meditating on a bench in the middle of a field.
In 2024, we are continuing to assist young changemakers intent on reinventing small-scale farming. The concept of "field to table" takes on new meaning when the chef who prepares your meal knows everything about the ingredients, because he happens to have grown them himself, or when the condiments you buy are made with a vegetable the producer has lovingly brought to ripeness and harvested. Find out more about the people who inspire us with their dedication, hard work, and agripreneurial creativity. In addition, we are creating the infrastructure to facilitate events such as family reunions, micro-weddings, and more. Learn more on our Events page. We also continue to harvest hay to support the rescue horses at Hillesum Farm. Hay is cut after mid-July in order to protect grassland birds such as bobolink and eastern meadowlark nesting in the fields.
